This photo series is about the self-saboteur—someone who, at times, becomes their own worst enemy. It reflects experiences that feel deeply human and familiar, since most of us have moments where we get in our own way without fully realizing it. The work covers topics that come to mind when I personally think of forms of self-sabotage. The first part focuses on vanity and how hyper-fixating on appearance can make us miss the magic surrounding us. It then moves into inner rot, where holding things in and repressing emotions causes them to fester, build up over time, and eventually reveal themselves in unconventional ways. Stagnation follows, looking at what it means to choose to remain stuck in one place emotionally or physically, resulting in holding yourself back. The series continues into unrequited love, inspired in part by Hanahaki Disease, exploring how wanting connection despite knowing it isn’t returned can lead to pain. Finally, it ends with bursting your own bubble—the way we can talk ourselves down and break our own hearts before anything or anyone else gets the chance.
